Lab Overview

Other worlds come alive through sound. On Dream Theory In Malaya, composer/trumpeter Jon Hassell teams up with ambient pioneer Brian Eno for a sequel to their 1980 collaboration Fourth Wold Vol. 1: Possible Musics. Originally released in 1981, this album is a further exploration of Hassell's signature "Fourth World" aesthetic - a style that fuses contemporary minimalism with world music, relying heavily on the use of electronic recording techniques. Here Hassell draws heavy influence from the Senoi people of Malaya (the area now known as Malaysia) which lends for a particularly other-worldly vibe, especially when singing bowls and gongs meet digitally manipulated trumpet and Prophet 5 synthesizers. Check out "Dream Theory," "Courage," "Malay," and the bonus track "Gift Of Fire" only found on this exclusive  This 2017 Glitterbeat pressing comes on heavyweight 180 gram vinyl complete with bonus track "Ordinary Mind," gatefold sleeve, and full CD version.
