Lab Overview

Essential dub experimentation from the UK's Dennis Bovell. Sourced from Brain Damage, Bovell's 1981 solo album, "Heaven" is a rare slice of dubby disco that is sure to ignite dance floors for years to come. The track is built around a supreme up-tempo groove that gets brought into focus on the instrumental edit. "Escape Goat Dub" is sourced from a session between Bovell and singer-songwriter Garland Jeffreys. Although the two were supposed to turn in the typical producer / artist album it turned out that Jeffreys was a huge dub fan. This led to the majority of their studio time going towards wild dubs, one of those being the cut featured here. Rounding out the release is "Smouche," another track from Brain Damage and my favorite of the three. A dubbed out island groove is complimented by some stellar Moog lead work and all is right with the world. Released by Optimo Music on black vinyl.
