Lab Overview

Shannon Wise & Max Shrager are The Shacks, and the young NYC duo presents a luring self-titled EP. Wise's charmingly whispery vocals gently sit on top of Shrager's stripped down, riff-riddled production (w/ Leon Michels's help on "Orchids"), and the 7-tracker certainly shows the young band's unexpected fondness (Wise is 18 and Shrager 20) for classic rock, doo-wop, and rocksteady ("Hands In Your Pockets"). A fun and refreshing listen from beginning to end, check out "Left It With The Moon," "Orchids," "This Strange Effect," and "Audrey Hepburn." The Shacks' first single, "Strange Boy," which the outfit recorded with El Michels Affair, is NOT on the EP.
