Lab Overview

Debut studio album from San Francisco's Sun Kil Moon. Ghosts Of The Great Highway was originally released in 2003 and marked a period of artistic growth for frontman Mark Kozelek. The former Red House Painters leader could have offered up another album that traveled the same well worn path, but instead turned in a more complete sonic statement than any of his previous releases. Although he stays faithful to trademark brand of languid folk-rock introspection, Kozelek imbues his music with subtle musical touches and new harmonic fields. He weaves epic ballads that tell tales of killers and boxers, filled with melancholy and moroseness. Emotionally dense and psychedelically textured, songs like "Salvador Sanchez" and the side long "Duk Koo Kim" come off as some of Kozelek's best work. Eleven tracks in all. Released by Rough Trade on double vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with obi strip.
