Lab Overview

Huge dub session courtesy of Sly & The Revolutionaries, back in print! Sly & co played on some of the deadliest reggae sessions in the late 70s and early 80s, all cut at the legendary Channel One recording studio. There’s something about the desk at Channel One; everything that came out of there around this time is pure gold. Maybe it’s the flawless riddims laid down by Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare and Ansel Collins, or the stellar production of Junjo Lawes, Niney The Observer, Joseph Hoo Kim, or in this case, foundation toaster / producer Jah Thomas. Or maybe it’s the genius final touches of dub masters Scientist and Prince Jammy, and on this standout session, mixing duties are shared by both legendary proteges of King Tubby. Sly & co completely ditch the standard dub naming protocol (Let’s All Unite -> Unity Dub) and just go straight for weed-related names, keeping it mostly ital on the A-side (“Marijuana,” “Collie,” “Rizla,” “Herb”) but let babylon into the studio on the B-side (“LSD,” “Cocaine”). Originally released in 1980 on the mighty Trojan Records, this new Music On Vinyl audiophile orange vinyl pressing marks the first time the album has been on wax in 37 years. "Bun Fiya" orange colored vinyl; limited edition with individually numbered sleeve, pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl in case you smoke too much chalice and decide to break up your collie on it. Rizla not included. Be sure to check “Marijuana,” “LSD,” “Cocaine,” “Herb.” Recommended.
