Lab Overview

Debut studio album from Long Beach's Sublime. 40oz. To Freedom was originally recorded in between 1991 and 1992 in secrecy at the studios in CSUDH. They would record at night when no one was supposed to be there. The band drew inspiration from reggae and hip hop, as well as their punk rock roots. There are covers of Bad Religion, Toots & the Maytals, Grateful Dead, and the Descendents, as well as lyrical references to the Beastie Boys, Bob Marley, and The Specials. Although the album did not find immediate commercial success, it would go on to become one of the highest selling independently released albums of all time. Includes the songs: "Smoke Two Joints," "Badfish," "Date Rape," and "Rivers of Babylon." Twenty-one tracks in all. Released by Geffen Records on double vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve.
