Lab Overview

Outtakes and reworks from Mellow Waves released for Black Friday RSD 2018! Starting off with a handful of original tracks; intro “Audio Check Music” is signature Cornelius weirdness, the floating jazz-funk grooves of “Audio Architecture” and feelgood Shibuya-kei vibes of “Not Bad, This Feeling” are easily on the level with any of Mellow Waves’ best joints. The cover of Drake’s “Passionfruit” has a real Discovery-era Daft Punk vibe to it; throw this on at your next corporate gig and drive all the basic chicks nuts. Then there’s remixes of songs from Mellow Waves, with a personnel list reading like a who’s who of Lab faves: Ryuichi Sakamoto AND Haruomi Hosono touch up “If You’re Here” and “In A Dream” (respectively), offering a taste of where both artists heads’ are at in 2018. The Beach Fossils rework of “The Spell Of A Vanishing Loveliness” seamlessly fuses the best of Corn-dog’s original with Dustin Payseur’s own vocals. Hiatus Kaiyote and Lawrence (of FELT!) also turn in leftfield re-interpretations, and there's a live rendition of “In A Dream.” With contributions from artists working in such disparate spheres, the end result is a little all over the goddamn place, so it’s no different from any other Cornelius record you already have. Limited edition of 1500 copies on marble colored vinyl with printed insert, recommended.
