The no-fuss direct drive motor is great for casual and advanced listeners alike, and the the highly upgradeable Audio-Technica VM Series cartridge leaves room for upgrades. The lack of a pre-amp is also a nod to vintage hifi; it encourages users to use an integrated amp (which feature a built-in preamp) and passive speakers." - TTL
