Lab Overview

Do you think that if you were falling in space, that you would slow down after a while or go faster and faster? At long last, Death Waltz come through with the vinyl reissue of Angelo Badalamenti's score for David Lynch's excellent Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. The 1992 film was met with lukewarm praise upon its release, but has since been widely regarded as an integral piece of the highly-addictive world of Twin Peaks and a great film in its own right. Much like the film itself, the music of Fire Walk With Me is an altogether darker and sleazier affair compared to that of the original Twin Peaks series (and dare we say, better). While the music from the series hinted at the dark side of a small town in the Pacific Northwest, it still retained a hopeful atmosphere throughout. In contrast, Fire Walk With Me is completely hopeless in its execution. The despondent "Sycamore Trees" is a brooding, dreadful jazz number with bleak vocals from Jimmy Scott (and Ron Carter on bass!). "Theme From Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" is a superb slice of haunted jazz, with a somber trumpet drifting over Badalamenti's bed of lush synth strings. Heads will remember the ultra-sleazy rockabilly swagger of "The Pink Room" from the unforgettable scene for which it is named. Twelve tracks altogether, on vinyl for the first time in 25 years, spread across two "Cherry Pie" red marble LPs and housed in a stunning gatefold sleeve with die-cut slipcase modeled after the floor tile of The Red Room. Along with Death Waltz's reissue of the original Twin Peaks score, this is a must-have for all Twin Peaks fanatics. Recommended.
