Lab Overview

An Italo classic with an interesting back story if there ever was one. Originally recorded in 1983 by Italo producer Roberto Ferrante, "Come On Closer" features vocals that have a surprisingly decent American accent for an Italian record. They're voiced by Douglas Roop, a soldier from Texas who was stationed at a NATO base in Naples, Ferrante's home town. It became a hit in Italy and France upon its release, and eventually made it to Chicago's WBMX where DJs like Mickey Oliver made it an essential part of the early house scene. Over the years it has become an essential part of any respectable Italo fan's collection. But with original pressings fetching upwards of $200, it was slightly unattainable. Thankfully it's been repressed! And if it sounds a little familiar to you, you may recognize it as the sample source Neon Indian's "Psychic Chasms." Released by La Discoteca on limited edition black vinyl. Recommended.
