Lab Overview

"Gbe Mi Lo" is the instrumental track on the album that forced psych diggers to cough up a lot of money before the age of internet marketplaces. Understandably so, as the song effectively sums up Ofege's style: "a unique, raw, beautiful take on the psychedelic sound." The Lagos, Nigeria group, which consisted of St. Gregory's College students, released its debut, Try And Love, in 1973. Fuzz guitar and African flavors drive the 8 tracker, and it's an instant charmer abounding with delicious harmonies, memorable hooks, and funky backbeats. Drawing influences from Led Zeppelin, Santana, as well as Nigerian bands like BLO, The Funkees, and the Black Company, this LP is a true gem from West Africa, check out "Nobody Falls," "It's Not Easy," "Whizzy Llabo," and "Try and Love."
