TONY FOR MAYOR. Rumor has it that this record was originally conceived as a sequel to Rae & Ghost’s classic Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…, but due to the duo’s decision to record in Miami, Bulletproof Wallets turned out more warm and upbeat than OB4CL and was ultimately renamed. Everything we know & love Ghostface for is here, though. Check him and Chef in storytelling mode on “The Hilton” & “Maxine”. Gritty street knowledge is sprinkled over soulful Blaxploitation vibes on “The Juks” and “Street Chemistry” (both produced by The Alchemist). RZA’s funk and soul pilfering carries over from Ironman and Supreme Clientele, with samples of Bobby Womack, The O’Jays, Bob James, Harold Melvin and more lacing the tracks. Recommended.
