Darkstar
Aidy's Girl Is A Computer (Kyle Hall Remix) Digi-12
big dubstep track with deep Detroit house remix, pick
Another big release for Hyperdub (can the label do no wrong?) with Darkstar's much anticipatee "Aidy's Girl Is A Computer" back with an incredible house remix from Detroit prodigy Kyle Hall. The original mix of "Aidy's..." has been floating around the internet for months now, finding its way into the sets of all the key players in the game, and with good reason. The track has an undeniable charm to it thanks to those sublime melodies and swingin' garage-ish rhythm. Mr. Hall makes for some seriously deep Detroit business on his remix, extending the mood over a grooving 4x4 with sweet synth solos to boot. Excellent release. Recommended.

Italoboyz vs. John Coltrane
Bahia Digi-12
infectious dance rework built from coltrane original
Yes, this is actually an officially-cleared dance remix of John Coltrane's "Bahia"! But have faith, this is far from some corny acid jazz remake. The Italo Boyz (Mothership, Get Physical) dissect the original song for dusty parts, creating a haunting big-sound dance track. Further into the track, Trane's actual solo comes in and it's the ultimate release. The Party Swing version is more direct, while the Mucho Longo version has a slower build-up. Recommended.

Alexander Robotnick
Obsession For The Disco Freaks (Nacho Lovers, Li'll Bo Tweak) Digi-EP
new track from legendary disco producer, hype remixes
Label debut for legendary disco producer Alexander Robotnick on Fool's Gold Recs! "Obsession For The Disco Freaks" has been making noise in the digital realm for a minute now, and now the track finally sees a 12" vinyl release. The veteran producer seems to ramps up his classic italo style with pumping house drums, tough 303 bass, and high energy synth lines that will drive the dancefloor into a frenzy. A dope, versatile sound that'll cross over with house, disco, and techno. The Nacho Lovers take a stab at the remix with swirling arpeggios and a deep drums and sub-bass for the late night rave freaks, while Freeform Five opt for more of a dark and dirty warehouse style for their remix(3). Really feeling the Li'll Bo Tweak remix with its live feeling drums and hypnotic synth layers that create a strong, easy-to-feel groove. Recommended.

Douster
Triassic Digi-EP
playful, eclectic dance music from Argentina
Triassic is not your usual dance EP. The sounds contained within have something very primal and also very magical about them (see the video below that demonstrates this feeling perfectly). The way French Agentinian producer Douster blends the tribal instruments with hard modern dance beats may catch you off guard at first, but soon you might find yourself bouncing in your seat strangely curious. Then he throws in those squeeky synths and sound effects and you got something very unique indeed. Another interesting release from Argentina's ZZK Records.

Amp Live
Gary Is A Robot Remixes (Blu Jemz, Grand Theft, James Curd) Digi-EP
LAB EARLY EXCLUSIVO, rmxs of surprise hit
LAB EARLY EXCLUSIVO! Amp Live's surprise hit "Gary Is A Robot" gets the full remix treatment. Leading off the selection, there's hard dance version by Lab's own Blu Jemz! If you ever talked to this guy, you owe him an add to cart here. Also includes a very fitting midtempo-feeling remix by DFA's James Curd. The Al Velilla remix caught me off guard with its potency, that's some textbook dance shit. Also includes a Daft Punk-ish remix by Grand Theft and the original version.

Dubbel Dutch
Trollsta Digi-EP
minimal, electro and dubstep come together
Is there such a thing as minimal electro? If there is, this must qualify. "Trollsta" starts off sounding like it could be a minimal techno track, but then comes the squelching, unruly bassline just when you let your guard down. Kind of a weird, hybrid between the two styles, it works very nicely. Knights Of The Round Table and MHM One both contribute subdued techno versions, leaving the door wide open for Egyptrixx to come in and blow everyone out with a huge dubstep take. Four tracks total, recommended.

Moby
Go - The Very Best of Moby Digi-LP
collection of Moby's dance, downtempo and remixed hits
MASSIVE collection of all the high points from Moby's career, with a special focus on his Play and 18 albums. The work ranges from his downtempo breakbeat tracks to his euphoric house numbers, and also includes his softer moments like the epic classical piece "God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters." Also of note is that this compilation includes the original version of "Southside," which is the version without Gwen Stefani on backup vox. Disc 2 focuses on remixes of Moby's biggest songs, and includes work from a ton of huge names, including Pete Heller, Steve Angello, Axwell, Booka Shade, Mylo, even one from DJ Tiesto(!). Tons of material here (27 tracks total), great for new fans and old fans alike.

Justin Martin & Claude Vonstroke
Beat That Bird Digi-12
more ADD house goodness from Dirtybird
More dirty, funky, rump shaking madness from the Dirtybird camp. This time around Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke play on the old school "Beat That Bitch with a Bat" vocal, substituting their favorite B word for everyone else's. Stuffed to the gills with the bass, burp sounds and breakdowns that you've come to love them for, this track is a surefire bomb threat. Everyone from Jesse Rose to Digitalism is saying "LETS GO BEAT SUM BIRDS".

Audion
Mouth To Mouth Remixes Digi-EP
minimal house and techno
Here's what Minimal Man had to say about this back in 2007:
If you're into techno and you somehow missed hearing "Mouth To Mouth" last year, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you were maybe in a coma, not born yet, or deaf. EVERYONE hammered the fuck out of this song, and its mainly due in part to the fact it's an absolute killer. Matthew Dear, aka Audion, blew peoples minds with "Mouth To Mouth", and thank god those wise guys at Spectral put together a remix EP. Heartthrob, Minus Records wonderboy and all around amazing producer and remixer, takes part not once, but twice on this vinyl with two different reworkings of "Mouth To Mouth". First he brings the "Hot Breath Treatment", which adds marvelous atmospherics and a wickedly funky new groove to the mental trip Dear originally assembled. Not as driving as its parent, this first mix doesn't disappoint in any way, but it doesn't hold a candle to Heartthrob's second working, "Mantap Mix". The first time I heard this remix version back in December, I lost my marbles. And I can tell you that I, like many others, will flip just as hard for this new edition of "Mouth To Mouth". As if the original didn't get enough time on the decks, this one will surely be in everyones crate for the next year, so get used to hearing it. Finally, Wagon Repair co-owner, Konrad Black slides in on the third cut with "Whorenando's 'Couch To Couch' Mix", and in true Konrad Black fashion, its dirty, funky, sexy, and insane, all at the same time. A far cry from his deep melodic work on Swayzak's 240Volts label, and almost as impressive as 2005's "Medusa Smile", this mix will be the sleeper of the three due to its third placement on the vinyl and Heartthrobs command of the EP. But don't skip over this remix from Konrad! When this bad boy hits, it hits with ferocity. The long and the short of it is Spectral took the world by storm with "Mouth To Mouth" last year, and its going to show lightning can strike twice with all three of these remixes of Audion's groundbreaker. The hotness for sure! Recommended.

The Future Sound of London
Papua New Guinea Translations Digi-LP
1991 chillout classic and remakes
"Papua New Guinea" was one of the three biggest chillout tracks to come out of the early 90s rave scene. It was especially effective in creating that cliched "journey" effect thanks to the vocals of Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), a crisp breakbeat, and those swirling electronics (the idea of "journey" was so big in 90s DJ scene, wasn't it?) . This 2002 release includes the original version as well as several remakes by FSOL themselves. Interestingly, the remakes are better than you'd think they'd be.

Dave Nada
Apocalyspe Digi-EP
bmore, electro and even a little minimal techno
Round two from Nada and T&A, this one features some seriously dark bmore/electro/tech hybrids. "Apocalypse Theme" is full of break beats, vacuum synths and a Misfits vocal sample that unleashes hell in the middle of the track. Dubstep maestros 12th Planet and Fitch jump on the remix for that one, adding some wobble-wobble bass and syncopated drums to keep things moving. "Drummer's Rock" edges a bit closer to traditional Bmore territory, featuring synth horns and a vocal sample from Kanye's "Good Life." For the last track, Nada enlists his production partner Matt Nordstrom to remix "Inner Midget," and together they turn it into a nice grooving, minimal track. Four tracks total, muy recommendo.

DJ Roland Clark Presents Urban Soul
Brown James (Alex Kenji & Matthias Heilbronn Remixes) Digi-EP
james brown tribute tracks, house and breaks
James Brown tribute from prolific producer Roland Clark under his Urban Soul guise. A side is a techy house track (don't really hear the connection), but the b-side makes up for it with breaky remake of "In The Jungle Groove." The second Soulflower mix is instrumental and my pick of the two.

Fourth installment in Audion's new album that has been evolving ever so slowly one track at a time with these releases. Jessica 6
Fun Girls (Hercules & Love Affair) Digi-EP
dance track and remixes from members of Hercules & Love Affair
Jessica 6 is a project from members of Hercules & Love Affair (including trans-gender vocalist Nomi Ruiz) that came about while the group was touring. This is their debut release and features the sleek dark disco sounds of "Fun Girl(1)" which is very reminiscent of the H&LA stuff. Tons of remixes to be had as well including Liv Spencer's (one half of Still Going and House of House) hypnotic house version, the funky disco Whatever, Whatever version, the sexy electro Miso remix, and the chugging Worldwarwalter version. The B-side switches things up on "Not Anymore(2)" a melancholy ballad that really showcases Nomi's vocal capabilities and the bands range of styles.

Lauren Flax
You've Changed (feat. Sia) Remixes Digi-LP
vocal house remixed
New remix EP for Lauren Flax's debut single "You've Changed." War Games leads things off with a broken beat cut, featuring some squelchy bass lines and a wailing trumpet, and Kill The Rocket follows that up by rearranging the vocals into a trippy language that definitely isn't English. Christopher Just and Tombstone stick closer to the feel of the original, slowing things down and adding some nice synth arpeggios, and then Dean Coleman finishes things off with a huge house reworking.

Daedelus & Jogger
Friends of Friends Remixed (Michna, Eliott Lipp, Nosaj Thing) Digi-EP
mish-mosh of dance styles remixed by Lab heads, pick
Daedelus brought a mixed bag of unusual but wonderful dance tracks on the original Friends of Friends EP, but on the remix he's reached out and gathered an unusual grouping of remixers - many of them (former) Lab heads! "C'est Super" was originally a filtered disco edit with the early Daft Punk sound... that is until Michna got his hands on it. Michna successfully transforms it into a seriously heavy banger, quite literally. The bass kicks on this thing knock hard on this thing! "LA Nocturn" gets flipped from folk rock downtempo to tough electro funk hype by the talented homie Elliot Lipp, while "Nice Tights" gets totally chopped and screwed into a crazy downtempo beast by Nosaj Thing. Tough stuff. Also features some very funky dance remixes of "Nice Tights" by Grahm Zilla and Keenhouse and a dubstep version by Mexicans with Guns. Recommended.

Larytta & Bauchamp
Friends of Friends Volume 2 Digi-EP
tripped out tropical tunes from mad swiss duo
Friends Of Friends continues to bring you the freak-funk with the second in their split EP series. The first half is dedicated to Larytta who's stripped down beats and vocal chants are reminiscent of Muscles. The electro tinged "Play Me Loud (3)" is a nice bridge to Bauchamp's tunes. Bauchamp seems to reside in a house half filled with steel drums and video games. "Tchumu (5)" comes with some of the most hyperactive filter house to cross my ears in a long time. Craziness.

Floating Points
Vacuum Boogie Digi-EP
house disco techno hybrid tracks
After delivering one of the year's freshest beat releases (Love Me Like This 12"), Floating Points continues his tangent into housier territories. "Vacuum Boogie" is a wonderful piece of cosmic boogie slash house, wait for that bassline to come in for the payoff. The techno accents give this track a real Detroit vibe. B-side gets deeper into the techno sounds with "Truly" and "Argonaute II," sounding like a younger brother to Ghostly artist Osborne. Check out the electronic organ play on "Truly," that's inspirational. Well crafted stuff.

Malente
I Like It (Riva Starr, Mikix The Cat) Digi-EP
house and electro versions of an infamous KC & The Sunshine Band track
New electro heat from our homies over at Fools Gold! "I Like It" is built on a sample of KC & The Sunshine Band's infamous wedding tune (well, I guess most of their stuff is default wedding fodder at this point). Malente's version drops the intro sample just long enough for the crowd to recognize it before launching into a blistering electro interpolation. Riva Starr brings things closer to disco house territory, chopping the original sample into staccato stabs, while Mikix The Cat summons some massive basslines for a fidgety electro version. Fantastic production all around, recommended.

C.L.A.W.S.
I've Got Problems Digi-EP
tech house jams
SF's Brian D. Hock returns as C.L.A.W.S. for another round of techy-house-lazer-bass jams on TigerBeat. The I've Got Problems EP kicks off with a galloping minimal rhythm topped off with plenty of spacey synth work on "You, (I'm Tired of) ah ah". The Beaners remix weirds it out even more with droning synth sprays and playful little percussion bits, while "Gravity And You" pumps it up on some space echo'd arpeggio shit. Lastly is "Radiance" which C.L.A.W.S. describes as "Totally epic nintendo lazer house courtesy of a moog opus-3. Donâ™t be afraid of some chords and melody kitties!" Haha, I second that.

Odyssey
Greatest Hits Remixes Digi-LP
funky house versions of classic Odyssey tunes
Odyssey were a NY based disco trio responsible for some of many loved dance classics ("Inside Out, "Native New Yorker," etc). On this compilation, said classics get bumped up and banged-out in a 90's style for play in the big room. Standouts include the groovin' piano house version of "Native New Yorker" that uses many of the vocals of the original, the bumpin' versions of "Use It Up and Wear It Out" and "Going Back To My Roots" (with that "I Can't Go For That" bassline), and the jazzy house version of "Inside Out." No remix credits given, but these could easily be mixed with MAW, Frankie Knuckles, Junior Vasquez, etc. style tracks.

Audion
It's Full Of Blinding Light Digi-12
deep, funky minimal techno
Matthew Dear returns under his Audion alias to bring the third release from his slowly evolving forthcoming album. The It's Full Of Blinding Light EP shows another side of Audion, more funky and less atmospheric than I Am The Car, but still just as deep and nuanced. The title track might get you feeling nauseous with the sweeping synths that hit your brain in waves over the click-clacky beat, but let it run it's course and you'll be rewarded in the end. "On My Way To The Center" features a hypnotic little vocal that'll hypnotize listeners while the funky beat moves your body in a trance. "Jukebox Hero" is in a similar vein, but even more out there.

James Curd
The Wills & The Wonts (Treasure Fingers Remix) Digi-EP
funky disco pop, Treasure Fingers remix
I first heard of James Curd from his recent DFA release. Apparently the Chicagoan has been making noise for some time before that with soundtrack contributions to shows like CSI and Grey's Anatomy and video games like GTA4. Who knew? Well here he is on another funky expedition with The Wills & The Wont's. Similar to his DFA single, this EP's got a disco pop appeal that the masses can easily get down to. The title track features a stronky bass line and cool disco rap lyrics to get that ass shakin'. "Back Off Move Away" is a bit more electro, but still very catchy, while "Don't Wanna Be Free" features some ridiculously funky scatting action. Fool's Gold representer Treasure Fingers outshines the originals though with his hype remix of "Back Off Move Away" which will start the dance party anywhere it is dropped. It's like Robert Palmer...(simply irresistible).

Da Hardy Boyz
Here I Am (Runaway Remix) Digi-EP
hip-house and new disco sounds from ttl family
LAB EARLY EXCLUSIVO! After a run of heavy bloggin, sunrise sessions, and surprise shows, Da Hardy Boyz (aka Blu Jemz, Unemployed Lloyd, and TK) have finally emerged to the bright surface with their debut EP. Opener "Here I Am" whispers to their formative period as a cheeky German techno - Ron Hardy tribute band (we're keeping the demos under wraps). Don't take it too seriously, but do take the Arthur Baker inspired beats and synths seriously. The instrumental "I Want You There" pays homage to the cosmic disco 12"s the Boyz love so much and sets up the club heater "Hardy Time." This club mutant has been getting the hardest love at shows with its hard drums, new wave basslines and echoed lyrics. Did Lloydski really say "I'll be your Stouffers"? For the cherry on top, DFA's Runaway deliver one of their finest remixes, completely deconstructing "Here I Am" into a minimal disco banguh. Recommended.

Eli Escobar
Glass House (XXXChange Remix) Digi-12
debut solo 12" release, XXXChange on the remix
NYC's Eli Escobar has been making noise for years now, from his hip-hop productions on Fondle 'Em to his edits on Money Lotion and remixes for everybody from MIA to Britney Spears. You'd think he'd have a solo 12" by now, but believe it or not this release on Stretch Armstrong's Plant label is it! Eli goes in strong on "Glass House" letting a tough house rhythm slowly build with layers of synth lines that reach a climax with epic strings and pads after the breakdown. The homie XXXChange goes for the "Yoga Mom In A Blender Mix" on the flip that strips down Eli's lush production for a rawer warehouse feel. Check that screeching synth line after the break that'll turn the floor loose. Also includes the "Good Times" (not on the vinyl). Pump it up!
