DJ Angola, brooklyn-based purveyor of worldwide beats and Lab store customer, drops his first single to Bogman acclaim. "Bailalo(1)" features the latin vocals of Ico Manzanero (lead singer of the Larry Harlow Orchestra) and the funky flute of Neil Sugarman (Daptone). The sound here is very Turntables on the Hudson, worldly influences are strong over dance-able beats. Flip features a remix by Quantic(2), who snaps up the percussion, and adds some trickling guitars... another Quantic gut shot. An excellent pairing.

afro-latin uptempo beats

The lead single from Nickodemus' Sun People album. "Sun Children(1)" featuring the vocals of The Real Live Show serves as the album's unofficial anthem, defining the universal "everyone under one sun" message. "N'Dini(2)" is the same rhythm track, replacing Real's vocals with the african styles of Ismael Kouyate. B-side features the darker, afrobeat track "The Love Feeling(3)."

Mi Swing Es Tropical (Zeb Remix) / Conmigo 12"

The original "Mi Swing Es Tropical" 12" was a certified best seller here at the Lab and definitely one of the biggest tunes to date from Nickodemus and Quantic, so naturally a remix is in order. And who better to remix the track than label mate and dub master Zeb? His reggae remix(1) is a scorching hybrid of the original's latin flavor infused with dubby bass and skanking guitars. This is the kind of world music you can really get down to. Flipside features the uptempo dancefloor heat of "Conmigo(2)" on which Nickodemus teams up with legendary Puerto Rican vocalist Sammy Ayala and the Candela All-Stars. Burnin'!

Nickodemus' Wonderwheel label with their first CD release. This collects most of the label's 12" output thus far, plus some outside treats, all mixed together by Nick. If you like Turntables on the Hudson stuff, this is a must. Great cover work by Mirk. 14 tracks in all by artists like Zeb, Angola, Sabo, Nickodemus, Shantel, Quantic, and more.

Turntables On The Hudson #6 Remix CD

The latest installment of the Turntables On The Hudson compilation series. This volume focuses on remixes which have been previously unreleased or only available on 12" vinyl. Once again it's a top notch, dj friendly selection, set off by "Sixtro(1)" produced by Lab's own Sabo. Some hot latin influenced tracks follow, check Marzebian's "Che Lingua(2)" the Matthias Helibron remix(3) of "Brobombique," and the Quantic and Nickodemus collaboration "Puerto Rico Pa Gozar(4)." It gets thicker from there with genre-defying party tracks like the DJ Endredo remix(5) of "Bateria Virtual," the Beat Pharmacy's remix(6) of "Jump," and the Jugoe remix(7) of Zeb's "The Circle." As we always say, if you want this kind of sound, TOTH and Wonderwheel are the best places to get it. 12 tracks in all, recommended.

Nickodemus & Mariano present Turntables on the Hudson 10 Year Anniversary Digi-LP

Global funk from the legendary NYC party crew

Turntables On The Hudson is an absolute institution in NYC. Founded by Nickodemus and Mariano in 1998, the TOTH party celebrated it's 10th anniversary just last year. This release commemorates that landmark with an anthology of the funky sounds that have been featured at the party and on their compilation releases throughout the last decade. Of course Nickodemus is prevalent here, lending several of his tracks from out the years, like "Conmigo" and "Cleopatra In New York." Also check the global-funk vibes on "Greenwood Groove," the reggae inspired "Death Of A Revolution" by Flowering Inferno (aka Quantic), and "Estan Llamado" by Chico Mann. Even TTL OG Sabo gets in on the action, remixing Nickodemus' "Gibraltar" alongside Zeb. All in all, 27 tracks of rarities, remixes and funky tracks.

Turntables On The Hudson: Lunar New Year 4707 Digi-LP

indian, gypsy, asian beats

You can thank Wonderwheel and Nickodemus for continuing to put out these comps. Where the hell else are you going to get these tracks? The selections lean heavily on the indian beats - gypsy funk sound with contributions from the usual suspects (Zeb, The Pleb, Nicko, Nappy G), plus those mystery dudes that probably have beards and wear linen pants. 10 tracks in all.

Remix The Earth, I Want To Get Off EP

Remix single from Zeb's Stop The Earth album. "Felakesh," a Afro-Indian hybrid, gets two remixes from Vienna's Cay Taylan: downtempo(1) or uptempo(2), the choice is Krishna's. Flip features the original version of sitar-jam "Toe To Toe(3)" and an uptempo "Afro Disco" rework(4) by Budapest's Infragandhi and Cameleon. So international.
