Lab Overview

A bold musical turn for Princess Nokia, A Girl Cried Red is the follow up to 2017's critically acclaimed 1992 Deluxe. Drawing on her varied non-rap influences, which ranges from the "introverted acoustic sounds of Elliott Smith to the bombastic pop-punk energy of Paramore," the NY artist delivers her "uncompromising feminist ideology" over 8 tracks, and she sounds as assured and comfortable as she did on her more hip-hop oriented projects. Frasqueri has often proclaimed her love for rock, and here's what she has recently said concerning the genre: "This is our shit. Very naturally, that's why we return to it." It'd be interesting to see where she takes us on her project, but for now, check out "For the Night," "Your Eyes Are Bleeding," "Morphine," and "Flowers and Rope."
