Demon City Shinjuku was an Original Video Animation originally released in Japan in 1988. It was one of the first commercially available anime films in the US, and was a common fixture of the meager anime section of the average Blockbuster Video. The film is an adaptation of a series of novels by Hideyuki Kikuichi (Vampire Hunter D, Wicked City) and was directed by frequent collaborator Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust). One of Kawajiri’s favorite directors is John Carpenter and the influence is clear from the post-apocalyptic aesthetic, stylish violence, and synthesized score. Composed by Motokazu Shinoda, This is the first release of this music in any format, and includes all cues heard in the film in addition to 28 tracks recorded during the same sessions. Packaged in a gatefold sleeve featuring artwork from the film, this pressing is on clear vinyl with a blue and black smoke effect.
