First album in 22 years from shoegaze legends Slowdive. How a band can go on hiatus for more than two decades and return to do it better than anyone else is a mystery to me. Slowdive always had that something extra that put them with the best of the shoegaze set. With their eponymous fourth album they remain as peerless as ever, turning in eight songs that far surpass going through the motions. This is what a shoegaze album should sound like, eerie and ethereal, warm and all encompassing. The sound harkens back to their classic 1993 release, Souvlaki, but is far from a retread of the past. It's a seamless, blissful effort that comes off as a fresh take on their unique sound. Eight tracks in all.
