  • The Twilight Zone, Ultra Q, The Outer Limits, The Scary Door - “What-if” anthology series about our future, both imminent and distant, have been popular for decades. These programs often tackle controversial, contemporary issues with allegory and metaphor, deftly blending social commentary and entertainment. Black Mirror is a contemporary excursion into this format, first airing in 2011 on the BBC’s Channel 4 and later picked up by Netflix. Hang The DJ follows the story of couple that lives in a society with compulsory romantic relationships chosen by “The System”, an online dating app that utilizes a Spotify-like algorithmic playlist. The instrumental soundtrack was created by frequent Sigur Rós / Jónsi collaborator Alex Somers, and features two exclusive tracks credited to Sigur Rós. The score is somber overall, musique concrete textures and wavering synth lines among tremolo strings, all buried beneath a suffocating layer of hiss. (I'm pretty sure I heard a Glockenspiel in there, too.) This LP is pressed on limited edition white vinyl.
