  • first steps, long out of print Bad Brains formed in 1977, but they took their time on their debut. Black Dots is their first studio recording, but is far more than a mere demo tape. Recorded by Dischord legend Don Zientara (Minor Threat, et al.) in the original Inner Ear Basement on 4-Track in 1979, this documents demonstrates the ferocity of the group from their earliest moments. The fidelity is better than expected, highlighting the dub-influenced drums and upfront bass that ebbs and flows throughout the group’s catalog. There are some stray sounds and chatter between the 16 tracks, but the band is laser focused, blasting through well-rehearsed takes of their future classics. When asked about this reissue by Billboard, HR simply said “it sounds great.” We agree. This LP is pressed on white vinyl, replicating the original 1996 release.

    • first vinyl repress in 20 years
    • pressed on limited edition white vinyl
    • packaged in sleeve with spot gloss accents and printed inner
