“Honeymoon” is the culmination of Lili Trifilio’s evolution as a songwriter and performer. Beach Bunny is the name of her project, beginning as a bedroom solo affair but expanding to a four piece band just in time for this debut long-player. Honeymoon follows a string of acclaimed EPs and singles, recorded quickly and self-released since 2015. The album was recorded at Electrical Audio studio in Chicago over a period of 9 months, and features production by Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Algernon Cadwallader), but studio fussiness is set aside for the goal of capturing the energy of their vital, life-affirming live shows. The disc starts with the driving chords of “Promises” leading to the crashing cymbals and neat solos of “Cuffing Season”. “Ms. Califonia” is a catchy, anthemic single, “Dream Boy” begins with soft acoustic strums, a solid showcase of Trifilio’s optimistic and clever lyricism. This album includes a large, fold out poster that looks like it would make for a super fun coloring project. The LP is pressed on light blue colored vinyl.
