  • Late 1950s album from influential alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley. Somethin' Else was originally recorded in 1958 and features one of the rare appearances of Miles Davis as a side man post 1955. Adderley was a member of the Miles Davis Sextet at the time, and Davis seems to have returned the favor with his contributions here. The rhythm section of pianist Hank Jones, Sam Jones on bass, and the legendary Art Blakey on drums is ultra tight, crafting a solid foundation for some of the most lyrical work to come from Davis and Adderley. Every cut grooves hard here, giving the sense of a laid back session. It's no surprise that Adderley would go on to contribute to some of Davis' most iconic recordings. Five tracks in all. Released by Jazz Images on 180 gram virgin vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with new cover art featuring iconic photos by Jean-Pierre Leloir.
