  • Brazilian Boogie compilation from Cultures Of Soul. Brazil is not just Bossa Nova and suntanned goddesses, there is much more to the culture than we take for face value. While most appreciate the aforementioned, those that dig a little deeper always come up with the gold and Cultures Of Soul have done just that. Pulled from 76-83, the usual prime years for Boogie collectors, Brazil was a hotbed for the soulful R&B sound that spawned from a Disco backlash and all around progression into a more modern sound. While some usual suspects show up Marcos Valle, Tim Maia, & Jorge Ben to name a few there is a grip of underground representation as well. The highly sought out "Estrellar" from Valle is present (woohoo!) as is a hilarious take on MJ's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough". There is a reason the Sun is often prayed to in different religions and the warmth you feel in these tunes makes one wonder maybe these people are onto something. Recommended.
