  • Floating Points follow up to 2015's Elaenia. The prolific DJ and producer made quite an impact with that album and continues on the journey it set off with Kuiper. Working with the band that toured in support of Elaenia, Floating Points nee Sam Shepherd turns in two krautrock inspired pieces that mix jazz and electronic elements with ease. The title track seems most fit for live performance with peaks and valleys throughout its gentle build. Things take a turn for the psychedelic as the band winds its way through the track's 18 minute run time. "For Mamish II" revisits one the standout cuts from Elaenia, recasting it as a floating ambient piece that owes as much to Steve Reich as it does house or techno. Shepherd seems to still be stretching out with Kuiper. He's pushing the boundaries of what he can do, but also seeing how far his fans are willing to go with him.
