  • RAER GRAIL ALERT. From the fine folks at Athens Of The North who dig deeper than deep comes a high-flying gem; a must-have for fans of quality deep funk and soul. Heavy diggers may be familiar with the 45 "World Full Of People / I'd Like to Stay" released by the band in '76 under the alias Everyday People (the median price for this single is a crisp grand), but the band released this full-length the same year under the alias People's Pleasure. The album's remained relatively under the radar for the casual digger and has only sold a few times on the online market (last check was for $1,600), so this first-ever vinyl reissue is welcome news for those of us who can't drop a months rent on a single record. The tracks sit somewhere between jaunty jazz-funk and storming soul, with highlights including "Heavenly Feeling" (very Idris Muhammad), the horn-heavy "World Full of People" and the seductive, synth-laden slow jams "Fantasies and Dreams" and "I'd Like To Say." This album will move quickly, so don't sleep! 9 tracks in all, released by Athens Of The North.
