  • What's in a bootleg? If you ask Malcolm McLaren he might say there's a whole lot there. Spunk (also released as No Future UK with a slightly different tracklist) was a bootleg of the Sex Pistols' demo recordings that mysteriously appeared around the same time that their official debut, Never Mind The Bollocks, dropped. McLaren is noted for saying that he prefers the raw takes of Spunk to the officially released versions. They were recorded when Glen Matlock still played bass, before Steve Jones took over for the recording of the band's Virgin Records release. The majority of these tracks would be re-recorded for Never Mind The Bollocks, although they appear under different titles here. So there you have it, the initial and only recordings of the Sex Pistol's original line up; before fame and self destruction took hold of the band.
