  • Sofia Coppola has a knack for anachronistic soundtracks. Whether it's the post punk of Marie Antoinette or Air's stellar soundtrack for The Virgin Suicides the filmmaker consistently places music in new contexts. For her latest, The Bling Ring, she turns once again to music supervisor Brian Reitzell. The pair have put together a soundtrack that mines the past few years of top 40 club jams. As an added bonus there are a few krautrock staples from Klaus Schultz and Can, as well as the contributions of Oneohtrix Point Never aka Daniel Lopatin. Those moments provide a fitting counter point to the tracks from 2 Chainz and Kanye West amongst others. The Lopatin and Reitzell original, "The Bling Ring Suite," that closes out the soundtrack is a definite standout. Its dirge like quality is akin to the comedown that the protagonists of The Bling Ring must have felt when they got popped. Triple 180 gram LP housed in a gatefold sleeve.
