Lab Overview

Sweet as honey dew. The enigmatic music lovers at Ximeno have blessed us with a repress of this excellent slice of disco reggae heat. Derrick Harriott’s sweet sweet lovers’ rendition of The Dazz Band’s “Let It Whip” is slowed down to a rocksteady groove but retains the original’s funky analog synth bassline and crunchy electronic snare fills. The flip, though, is where it gets hot: Christine Lewin’s cover of Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” (erroneously credited to Susan Cadogan on the center label) is arranged so perfectly, it’s hard to believe this wasn’t a reggae tune to begin with: deep deep bass licks and seriously funky synth stabs punching through Lewin’s angelic voice. Two floor fillers for the price of one (good luck finding the OGs). Ximeno, keep them coming! Recommended.
