Steady Diet of Nothing marked the first time Fugazi would produce themselves. The original producer they worked with, Ted Niceley, decided to become a chef and reluctantly turned down the opportunity to work with the band again. The album features overtly political lyrics and adventurous song structures. You get the sense that the band is still in the troughs of working out producing themselves. They experiment with slower tempos and more precise instrumentation, while keeping the government and mainstream media firmly in their sights. It's a formidable effort that has been a favorite of fans throughout the years.
