Lab Overview

Wes Anderson's films have always been noted for their soundtracks, amongst other things. Usually curated by Devo co-founder, Mark Mothersbaugh, the soundtracks serve to highlight particular moments in the movies. Whether it's The Kinks giving extra bite to Bill Murray's dive into solitude in Rushmore or Love's "Seven and Seven Is" adding edginess to Mothersbaugh's otherwise jazzy Bottle Rocket score, music plays a big role in Anderson's films. I Saved Latin! A Tribute To Wes Anderson collects some of the best cuts from the filmmaker's soundtracks and gets some wonderful indie bands to cover them. The result is, somewhat inadvertently, one of the best collections of cover songs you may ever come across. That is especially true if you're a fan of Mothersbaugh's selections or bands and artists like Juliana Hatfield, Telekinesis, Mike Watt and Escondido. Many of the covers respect the original material while adding a twist of their own. The Solvents bring something extra to their string heavy cover of The Kinks' "Nothing in This World," while Nico's "Fairest of the Seasons" is delicately treated by Trespassers William. A surprisingly enjoyable collection of covers. Highly limited 2017 pressing on red & gold colored vinyl.
