A welcome change of pace from Beck. On Morning Phase, Beck Hansen returns to the singer-songwriter style he championed on 2002's Sea Change. It is a quiet, personal record - a far cry from the "two turntables and a microphone" days, but something that the present musical climate needs more than another wild, genre-mashing romp. What's even more impressive is Beck produced the whole thing himself, a true testament to his genius. Check the sounds - from the calm, ambient opener "Cycle" that sets the tone with stunning emotion, "Morning" and "Heart Is A Drum" with their folk rock vibe, the catchy acoustic rock of "Blue Moon," the haunting "Waves," and the brilliant "Phase." If it means anything, everyone from Stoney to Klassen in the office are big fans. Comes on thick, 180g vinyl with free MP3 download card. Recommended.
