  • Boston’s Belly consisted of former Throwing Muses member Tanya Donelly, Fred Abong, Thromas Gorman, and his brother Chris. The band’s 1994 debut, Star was a surprise hit that has sold over 800,000 copies to date, and “Feed The Tree," the biggest song from the album, along with “Gepetto” and “Slow Dog” charted/got a lot of airtime on radio and TV. It’s easy to see what Belly’s appeal was (and is): aforementioned tracks and songs like “Every Word,” “White Belly,” and “Dusted” share the characteristics that made other alt. rock bands of the era popular, but Donelly’s whispery, pop-friendly vocals extend the genre into a wider audience. More than 20 years after its release, Star sounds as if it could be an album from a new indie band, a timeless body of work for sure.
