It's no wonder that both Tim Burton and Danny Elfman consider Edward Scissorhands their most personal and favorite work. The film is imbued with compassion and the macabre, and it's something that is evident from the moment you hear the opening title. Elfman's soundtrack is as much a part of the film as any other element, and is quite considerably his masterpiece. It was Elfman and Burton's fourth collaboration and seems to have provided the perfect canvass for both the director and composer. Haunting and instantly recognizable, Edward Scissorhands would not be the film it is without Elfman's grand contribution.
