  • Deep and affecting house music from DJ Sprinkles. With House Explosion I Skylax collects four of the more house oriented cuts from Sprinkles' 2006 Routes Not Roots album under the Kami-Sakunobe House Explosion alias. Sprinkles' trademark percussion and sub-bass heavy sound features prominently throughout the record. There are seemingly incongruous moments, like the country style fiddling that adorns the raw house of "Down Home Kami-Sakunobe." However, it's Sprinkles' innate ability to recontextualize these discordant elements that makes them work so well. There are multiple levels to this music, as the producer's omnivorous approach informs the socio-political elements that sit just below the surface. This is house music that will make you feel just as much as it will make you move. Recommended.
