  • Vinnie Paz and Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind are Jedi Mind Tricks, and the Philly duo's 1997 debut, The Psycho-Social, Chemical, Biological & Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Consciousness, is back. The initial pressing was very limited, as was the 2013 reissue, and this clear vinyl 2018 re-release should be welcome news for underground rap fans. Dense, intelligent rhymes from Paz reference everything from ancient knowledge & astronomy to social conditions; despite the tough-to-comprehend subject matters, Paz's genius on the mic is easy to appreciate, his raw flow, multisyllabic rhyme schemes, and versatility all doing wonders over Stoupe's moody, fitting boom-bap instrumentals. JMT's sophomore LP, Violent By Design, might perhaps be the group's most beloved project, but Psycho-Social… is a cult classic in its own right, an original body of work showcasing two artists fully dedicated to their crafts. Check out "I Who Have Nothing," "The Winds of War," "Onetwothree," "Get This Low," and "Tug of War."
