David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Mitchell Froom, and Tchad Blake are Latin Playboys, and this self-titled album is the group's 1994 debut. An avant-garde take on roots music, the raw, lo-fi, and fragmented sonics of the band is on vinyl for the first time, and more than 20 years later, the record sounds as experimental as ever. Imagine driving along the Mexican border and listening to terrestrial radio, except, the signal keeps dropping in and out. Chicano rock, blues rock, psychedelia… All the influences can be heard, but the Playboys' way of putting all of it together is truly out there and twisted, check out "Manifold De Amour," "Forever Night Shade Mary," "Chinese Surprize," and "Ten Believers."
