  • Retro soul revivalist debut album. You know when old timers look at someone that seems out of place and they're like 'you got an old soul'? Pretty sure this phrase was created for Leon Bridges and we just had to wait for him to get old enough for it to make sense. The young Fort Worth based soul singer takes you on a walk down memory lane with his smooth vintage soul tunes often compared to Sam Cooke. Let's be honest here though, this could easily be a reissue of some long lost 1962 private press album that should have seen the young man up there with Cooke, Brenton Wood, Smokey... all of em. Alas it is not. 'Coming Home' isn't an attempt at making vintage sounding tunes, it's the real deal. Singles 'Coming Home' and 'Smooth Sailin' are prime examples of where Soul music comes from and I am pretty sure Leon Bridges may have invented time travel. Recommended.
