  • What happened to the future we were promised and promised ourselves? A fitting question to accompany this monumental work by Leyland Kirby (aka The Caretaker). Originally released in 2009, Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was tackles existential questions of loss, desire, and bewilderment at the current state of things through long form ambient soundscapes. Similar to his work as the Caretaker, there is an air of haunting melancholia to the tracks that creates a deeply emotional listening experience. This is part two and follows part one with the next 7 tracks (out of 20 for the entire project). Fans of William Basinski, Brian Eno, Harold Budd, etc. should definitely check this out. Recommended.
