A sly nod to the Shaolin Soul compilation series, Shanghai'd Soul - Episode 4 contains a diverse selections of Numero tracks sampled by the likes of Phantogram, Common, Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Kendrick Lamar, Run The Jewels, and more. However, this compilation is way more than just break-oriented funk. You get powerful deep soul numbers that exude more depth and life than their short passages in a sampler memory bank. Many of these are hard to find rarities that only saw life in the late 60s and early 70s on limited 7" pressings. Particularity entrancing is the gospel funk of T.L. Barrett & The Youth For Christ Choir's "Like A Ship," and the Motown vibes of The Majestic Arrows' "Ladies & Wonderful Girls." Thirteen tracks in all. Released by Numero Group.
