Often hailed as the Billie Holiday of Cuba, Omara Portuondo has been a part of the Buena Vista Social Club since 1996. Also a founding member of the beloved vocal group Cuarteto d'Aida, Portuondo's works in various styles—Bolero, jazz, son cubano and more—through over 6 decades in the game comes into focus on this record, her first solo effort, originally released 2000. BVSC Presents Omara Portuondo carries "unrequited love - love lost and found" as the central theme, and the tracks were recorded in Havana with a phenomenal band orchestrated by Demetrio Muniz. Other members include Ruben Gonzalez, Cachaito Lopez, Guajiro Mirabal and Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos," with special guests Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo and Eliades Ochoa.
