  • Placebo's final album just might be the most divisive in their catalog. By the time Marc Moulin and company recorded their eponymous album they seem to have been bitten by the prog bug. The rhythms are a little less straight ahead and the solo sections are more expansive. Moulin was definitely stretching out more with his Moog, letting his fingers do all the walking they needed to. There are still plenty of funk filled grooves to be found, most notably on "Hop Hop" and "Stomp." "Dag Madam Merci" brings in some odd timed funkiness and gives the horns a little more breathing room. Album closer "S.U.S." features Moulin exploring the outer reaches of his instruments, perhaps foreshadowing what would come later in his career. It's a fitting end to a successful run of albums filled with some of the best jazz infused funk and rare groove to come out of the era.
