  • Certified sophisti-club banger from ‘03 now pressed on 7” for the very first time. This Red Astaire D’Angelo flip ushered in the unstoppable era of the Swedish remix (who knew?) and G.A.M.M. established itself as the force that it has remained in the open-minded dancefloor oversight DJ consortium. If you lived in NY in the early 00’s and didn’t hear Akalepse drop this at least once at APT you’re a cop. Here's PH's OG Lab review from when we first sold it on 12-inch:

This record is really big with NY DJs right now. The big'un here is a bossa tinged version of D'Angelo's Left and Right entitled "Follow Me." I personally witnessed the crowd pleasing power of this track last weekend at a Nickodemus party. Throw in the verse by Method Man and Redman, and the European girls are losing it. The B-side is a remix of the James Brown / Bamabaataa 80s collaboration "Unity," here entitled "The Wildstyle." The newly added piano loop makes the track and the breakbeats seal the deal. Two quality sides but you really want this for the D'Angelo track. If you got to know: Red Astaire is Freddie Cruger of Raw Fusion fame.

7-inch vinyl pressing plays at 33 rpm, released by G.A.M.M., recommended.

    • early 00s club classic, first time on 45
    • plays at 33rpm
    • music label: G.A.M.M. 2019
