From her indie folk singer-songwriter beginnings, Sharon Van Etten has gone through a stunning sonic evolution with the release of her atmospheric 5th studio album, Remind Me Tomorrow. It features peak songwriting chops mixed with a broody, atmospheric sound that's drenched with overdriven synths, saturated drums, and heavily processed vocals. Van Etten pairs up with heavyweight producer John Congleton for this shift in sound (see St. Vincent, The Decemberists, or Angel Olsen for some sonic examples), and the result is a driving, dark outing that "provokes our most sensitive impulses." From the reckless freedom exuded in "Seventeen" to the droney synth folk track "Jupiter 4" to the pop-oriented "Comeback Kid," this album will turn heads when you put it on the table. 10 tracks in all released by Jagjaguwar.
