  • Fourth studio album from Phoenix's Sun City Girls. Torch Of The Mystics was originally recorded in July 1988 and is the band's most popular and perhaps most loved album. The Sun City Girls (Alan Bishop, Richard Bishop and Charles Gocher) trafficked in an unpredictable mess of rock that took influence from pop, jazz, blues, psych, noise, improv and sounds from the far corners of the world (just check the discography of Alan Bishop's Sublime Frequencies imprint). Torch Of The Mystics is one of their most cohesive efforts, free of some of the more confounding moments that the band is known for. At times it feels like the wheels might fall off of the whole enterprise. The band teeters close to the edge of chaos, but finds beauty in repetition. Includes the songs: "Blue Mamba," "Esoterica of Abyssynia," "Radar 1941," and "The Shining Path." Eleven tracks in all. Released by Abduction.
