1972 debut from Memphis family band, The Sylvers. When you hear "seventies funk and soul family band," your brain creates a Bob Ross version of this album without ever hearing it. Front to back, this album is packed with memorable moments and samples. Dilla twerked "Only One Can Win" on Donuts, but it's actually a role player compared to the rest of the track list. "I'm Truly Happy" is as uplifting as it gets… those chorus harmonies make me feel funny. "Fool's Paradise" is like a pre-cursor of "Misdemeanor," while "I'll Never Be Ashamed" is complex like a fine wine. Originals will set up back way over $50, so this reissue is prime. Recommended.
