  • The Orielles first formed in Birmingham, UK in their teens, immediately bonding due to a shared love of 90’s music and the films of Quentin Tarantino. While they claim influence from US college rock stalwarts such as Sonic Youth and The Pixies, they sound the most like Madchester groups like the Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays, but, you know, competent. Overall, the record is quirky and chipper, effortless without being sloppy or indulgent. “Old Stuff, New Glass” features bass played high on the neck, charmingly flanged guitar lines, and a bevy of animal noises, whoops, and other merriment. “Let Your Dog Tooth Grow” begins with shimmering snares, the vocals are a neat blend of Esmé Dee Hand-Halford’s modulated, upbeat vocal line and the deadpan incantations of Henry Carlyle Wade. “I Only Bought It For The Bottle” is classic UK indie pop along the lines of Comet Gain or Orange Juice. But these broad strokes often omit the little details that adorn nearly every track here - record brakes, synth drums, and guitar noodling give endless details to discover beyond the delightful melodies and choruses. This record is packaged in a reverse board sleeve and includes a printed inner with full album lyrics. Highly recommended.
