  • Sophomore studio album from Wigan's psychedelic Britpop maestros The Verve. A Northern Soul was originally recorded between 1994 and 1995, and marked a change in style for the band. Traces of the psychedelic rock of their earlier material are there, but this album was a more pop oriented effort. Richard Ashcroft's vocals took a more prominent role as he recounts the hopelessness of human existence. The recording sessions were fraught with turmoil as Ashcroft was in the midst of a crippling breakup. An overindulgence in drugs brought an added dimension of instability to the recording sessions. The result was an intense and powerful album that provided a hypnotic journey through heartbreak, disillusionment and loss. Includes the songs: "This Is Music," "On Your Own," and "History." Twelve tracks in all. Remastered by Chris Potter & Tony Cousins from the original half-inch tapes. Released by Virgin on 180 gram double vinyl.

    • 180 gram double vinyl pressing
    • remastered by Chris Potter & Tony Cousins from the original 1/2" tapes
    • music label: Virgin 2016
