Lab Overview

"As one of Jamaica's leading record producers Arthur 'Duke' Reid embraced the new reggae sound. London-based reggae giant Trojan Records brought together a dozen of his finest works under the title Greater Jamaica Moonwalk Reggae. - Music On Vinyl

Not really a proper Tommy McCook album, more a compilation featuring an array of artists backed by McCook & The Supersonics produced by the great Duke Reid: music biz impresario, producer, liquor store owner, ex cop and notorious Kingston bad boy. Reid was a soundman who got into the Jamaican record business at the ground floor when pretty much the only other guy doing it was Sir Coxsone, who would become his main rival in the biz. Originally released on Reid’s Treasure Isle imprint in 1969, Moonwalk was imported to the UK by Trojan the following year with refreshed artwork and became a huge hit. This isn’t one you see in the wild very often, and its a rare chance to cross off a dozen early dancehall scorchers in one shot. Watch out for Dave Barker’s “Lock Jaw,” Glen Adams’ “My Girl,” wicked organist Winston Wright’s “Moon Invader” and “Moonlight Groover.” Limited to 750 stamped and numbered copies on 180g orange colored vinyl.
