  • Clocking in at a little over an hour, Colors, the fourth studio album from Between The Buried And Me, displays the North Carolina band's true commitment to constantly pushing its sound forward. There's plenty of thrashing guitars and growling vocals, but those harsher, darker moments are broken up with killer melodic breakdowns and other toned-down moments of...chaotic calm. Between the rhythmic shifts, mood changes, and sometimes stylistic variations ("Ants Of The Sky" country detour? Wow!), the group somehow finds fluidity, and tracks on Colors flow from one to the next w/ little or no bumps. It's as if the 8-tracker was one long song, but with enough musical permutations fill up multiple conventional albums. With that said, definitely play Colors from beginning to end, but if you must cherry pick through, check out: "Prequel To The Sequel," "Foam Born (A) the Backtrack," and "White Walls."

    • black double vinyl pressing
    • newly remixed + remastered by Jamie King
    • music label: Craft Recordings 2020
