  • The first official reissue of the Maria Rita Stumpf's Brasileria, originally released in 1988.The original LP has been in high demand since the inclusion of "Cântico Brasileiro No. 3" on Music for Memory’s 2017 compilation Outro Tempo, but this marks the first commercial reissue of the entire album. The reissue was overseen by Maria herself, with the audio remastered from an original DAT tape and artwork updated by Brazilian design studio Colletivo. The origin of the reissue is a bit whimsical, as she explains, “Many years passed until I got a call from a close friend saying that his son, whom I had known since childhood, was my fan. I found it funny... I was slowly returning to music after years of directing Antares, a company I created and that brought thousands of artists to Brazil. He was a DJ who played my songs at the Selvagem parties and as he said, did not know that I was me, the same Maria Rita who worked with his father. This was a plot twist, a movie thing." “Lamento Africa/Rictus” starts with raw, yet warm vocals introducing twinkling music-box percussion, the nearly sequenced-sounding simplicity of the track belying its emotional drama. “A Cidade” begins with claustrophobic piano and hazy strings, Maria’s voice a commanding presence. Includes a printed insert with full lyrics and photographs. Recommended.
