Mad Decent was an early supporter of rocksteady revivalists The Frightnrs, releasing their Inna Lovers Quarrel EP a bit before they signed to Daptone for good. The EP was originally a digital release, but key track “Make Up Your Mind” made its debut on wax on a (likely sold out by the time you read this) 7” earlier in 2019. As the group’s Chuck Patel says, “The stand out tracks seemed to be “Sharon” and “Admiration”, but we always felt that some of the other killer tunes were overshadowed.” One of these is “Which Way”, a thoughtful, studious jam with a sharp falsetto vocal from the late Dan Klein marinated in shimmering reverb, a meticulous bass line, and cosmic guitar treatments. Features a new dub version on the flip by EP producer Ticklah. Speaking of this recent revisit, Patel says “It reminded us of the good times we had recording the EP… our partnership was truly cemented during that time.” This super limited release is pressed on a 7” picture disc that features a zoetrope effect on both sides, and includes detailed instructions for viewing the effect with your phone camera.
